The word catalyst comes to us from the world of chemistry, and still conjures images of a scientist working away in a lab, beakers bubbling away, combining materials in hopes of creating something new. The chemist adds a catalyst to the mix to speed up the process – or change it completely, opening up new possibilities.
The College of Extended Studies is many things to many people – a community, an educational institution, a social hub, a place to network – but above all, the College is a catalyst, the ingredient that’s added to create change in your life.
What’s the change we can help you create today?
Advance your career. CES helps hundreds of professionals fast-track their careers every year, with 35 professional certificate programs and a range of career enhancement courses offered online, on campus, and at corporate and military venues. From Project Management to Process Improvement, Healthcare to Human Resources, we have programs to meet your professional goals.
Take that class you’ve always wanted to try. Whether it’s learning Persian to fulfill your foreign language credit requirement, or learning photography to fulfill your creative side, CES offers a range of courses so varied and interesting, we can’t possibly name them all here!
Learn English. Through the American Language Institute, international business professionals and students wanting to enter U.S. universities are honing their English-speaking skills. Students from more than 50 countries attend the excellent English programs SDSU offers.
Make a difference. CES has partnered with the City of San Diego and green industry leaders to create cutting-edge sustainability programs, from green building construction and renewable energy courses for industry professionals, to weekend workshops for homeowners wanting to “go green.”
Meet interesting people, like “Uncle Bill” Gilmore, a 100-year-old “life-long learner” who’s taken 40 Osher classes! The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute here at CES offers adults 50 and better a great social network and classes with top-notch professors in topics ranging from political science to literature, art history to astronomy.
Get a jumpstart on college. High-schoolers got a taste of college early this summer, at the Japan Studies Academy and in our various Teen Academies, discovering new interests and “trying on” new careers. Over 80 teens observed a Superior Court trial in action, shadowed Fox 6 News, built multimedia web sites, and learned about video game creation at Sony Online Entertainment.
The College of Extended Studies is proud to serve as a catalyst, one that continues to spark extraordinary results throughout our vibrant and diverse community. Come join us today!
